What this site is

Seat & Stake ranks camp furniture by how long it's built to last. That means the maker's rated capacity, the frame and the fabric, the warranty the maker actually puts in writing, and whether you can buy the part that wears out. Comfort and packed size matter too, but they come after the question every reader here is really asking: will this still be in the truck in five years?

As of launch the site covers 86 products from 32 brands across 59 rankings, comparisons, reviews and guides: camping chairs, cots, camping mattresses and cot pads, camp tables and kitchens, and the sideline and tailgate chairs a sports parent lives in. 28 of those products carry a lifetime warranty on paper, and every term is quoted from the maker with the date we read it.

The name says what the site covers. “Seat” is the chair and the cot you sit and sleep on. “Stake” is what you put down at camp, on the sideline or at the tailgate, and what's at stake when a cheap chair folds under you.

Who runs it

Mike M. is the hands-on owner behind Iron Mako Media, the publisher of Seat & Stake. He started the site for people who would rather pay once for camp furniture that lasts than replace a torn chair every season. Mike is the single byline on the site. Iron Mako Media is the publisher and the entity behind the site's affiliate accounts.

How the scores are built

From each manufacturer's published specifications, its own warranty page and its parts listings. Every spec on a product card links to the page it came from. Every warranty term is quoted, linked and dated. When a maker's site blocks automated reading, we say which authorized dealer's copy we used instead. When a figure isn't published, the card says “not published” and the score reflects it. The five-metric Built-to-Last rubric, its weights and its exact scoring bands are public on how we score.

What we refuse to claim

• Products we claim to have tested: 0. We haven't sat in, slept on or owned the products we score, and no page implies otherwise. Comfort is described from published measurements.
• We don't print Amazon prices. They change daily, so every button says “Check price on Amazon” until a live, time-stamped feed supplies a number.
• We don't quote Amazon star ratings or review counts, and we don't mark our own scores up as product ratings.
• We don't print a warranty term we couldn't read on the maker's page. Those products say “not published.”
• We don't list credentials, awards or testimonials, because there aren't any to list.

How the site is funded
