We scored every cot in our registry with the Built-to-Last Score. Build durability (the maker's rated capacity, plus a point for 600D-or-heavier fabric) counts 30%, the written warranty 20%, replacement parts 15%, fit and comfort 20% and weight 15%. The six single cots below cover the jobs most campers buy a cot for, ranked by that score. Every figure is the maker's own, read on 2026-09-22 and linked to its source; we haven't handled any of these cots, and the bands behind each score are on our scoring methodology page.

Durability rows come first because they decide how long a cot stays in service. Size and weight come after. A dash means the maker doesn't publish that figure.

Why the TETON Outfitter XXL is the cot to buy once

The Outfitter XXL is the only cot in our registry that scores a perfect 10 on three of the five metrics. TETON rates it to 600 lb, the top single-cot rating we list (the Disc-O-Bed 2XL matches it), and builds the bed from 600D canvas on steel X-legs. Its warranty is a limited lifetime term against defects in materials and workmanship. And TETON lists nearly every piece of the cot as a spare, from the canvas top to the end bars, side rails, legs and feet, and its customer-experience channel on YouTube has a video showing how to replace the cot top.

That parts list matters more than the warranty. TETON's policy says plainly that “normal wear and tear are not defects,” ALPS and Helinox exclude normal wear and tear in writing too, and every warranty on this page is written around defects rather than use. The sleeping fabric takes every night's load and every scrape against a tent floor, so a cot whose maker sells that fabric can go back into service when it tears. TETON takes parts orders by email to its Customer Experience team rather than through an online store, which is slower, but the list is published.

What it gives up is weight and bulk. At 26 lb with a 45-inch-long pack, it scores 4 of 10 on portability, and its 19.5-inch set-up height makes it a cot for the back of a car and a short walk to the site. TETON sells the matching sleeping pad separately.

Where the other five win

Disc-O-Bed 2XL: the most bed, and every part sold

The 2XL matches the TETON's 600 lb rating (Disc-O-Bed calls it a “weight tolerance”) on a bigger bed: 85 x 39.5 inches of 1200D PU-coated polyester, with no center bar under the sleeper. Disc-O-Bed's own store sells the 2XL sleeping mat, end frames, rails, stabilizer bars and the discs that join them, and its assembly instructions show the mat going onto the rails, which is the same job as replacing it. It trails the TETON on two counts: a 5-year warranty instead of a lifetime term, and 36 lb with a 47-inch bag. Its 14.5-inch deck is also lower than the TETON's set-up height. ALPS Mountaineering Ready Lite: a lifetime warranty at 5 lb

The Ready Lite weighs 5 lb, packs to 18 x 3 x 8 inches and carries the same lifetime warranty as the TETON. ALPS sells a replacement bed fabric for it, sized 28 x 78 inches, and a replacement carry bag. The trade is capacity and height: ALPS rates it to 300 lb, its 420D fabric is lighter than the 600D beds above, and it stands 6 inches tall. Its two-layer top forms a sleeve that holds an air pad up to 2 inches thick, so the pad stays put under you.

ALPS Mountaineering Escalade X-Large: long and high

At 90 x 35 inches and 22.5 inches high, the Escalade X-Large is the longest and highest cot we score. ALPS rates it to 325 lb, builds it from powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors, a telescoping center support and 600D polyester, and puts the same lifetime warranty on it. Only the carry bag is listed as a replacement part; for anything else ALPS asks you to call, and says it can supply parts “in some instances.” It scores 7.0, 0.2 behind the Ready Lite: same brand, same warranty, opposite cots. Choose between them on height and weight (24 lb against 5 lb), not on the score.

Helinox Cot One Convertible: the smallest pack

The Cot One Convertible weighs 4 lb 9.5 oz assembled and packs to 21 x 6 x 5.5 inches, the lightest cot we list. Helinox rates it to 320 lb, frames it in DAC TH72M aluminum, covers it for 5 years and sells a replacement sheet made for it. It sits 6.5 inches off the ground unless you buy Helinox's leg extensions, which add 8.5 inches, and at 75 x 26 inches it's short and narrow for a big sleeper. Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe: a pad in the box, a 1-year warranty

The ComfortSmart Deluxe is the only single cot here that ships with a pad. Coleman pairs a thick foam mattress pad with a coil suspension system on an 80 x 30-inch steel cot, 15 inches high, rated to 300 lb and designed for sleepers up to 6 ft 6 in. It scores 8 of 10 on fit and comfort, the highest fit score on this page. It ranks last because the rest of the math is thin: a 1-year limited warranty, no published fabric denier or pad thickness, and no cot parts in Coleman's parts catalog. Buy it if comfort out of the box matters more to you than a cot you can repair.

What didn't make this list, and where it went

• Disc-O-Bed XL (7.4). It outscores the Ready Lite, but it's the 2XL's smaller sibling: 500 lb, a 79 x 35-inch sleep area and an 11-inch deck. It ranks on our heavy-duty camping cot picks, where every cot is rated 500 lb or more.
• Helinox Cot Max Convertible (6.5). The 83-inch version of the Cot One, 0.1 behind it on score. It ranks on the tall-sleeper list.
• Coleman Pack-Away (4.7) and Trailhead II (4.4). Both carry Coleman's 1-year cot warranty, and Coleman's Consumer Care has told Trailhead II owners on its product page that the cot's “canvas is not sold separately.” Our cot replacement parts guide covers which makers do sell a new bed.
• REDCAMP Oversized (4.4). Rated to 500 lb by REDCAMP, but it publishes no warranty term, no product weight and no parts.

How to choose a camping cot you won't have to replace

Most cot shopping starts with price and comfort. Start instead with the four things that decide whether a cot is still in service years from now, then narrow by size and weight. For every cot guide and comparison in one place, start at the camping cots hub.

1. Rated capacity, with room to spare

Every rating on this page is the maker's own number. TETON says the Outfitter XXL “supports up to” 600 lb; Disc-O-Bed calls its figure a “weight tolerance.” Neither says how the figure was measured. Treat a rating as the ceiling for one person lying down, and pick a cot rated well above your weight, especially if you sit on the edge to pull on boots. The single cots we score run from 300 lb (ALPS Ready Lite and three Coleman cots) to 600 lb (TETON Outfitter XXL, Disc-O-Bed 2XL).

2. Fabric, and whether the maker sells a new one

Published fabric weights on this page run from 300D polyester ripstop (Helinox) and 420D (ALPS Ready Lite) to 600D (TETON, ALPS Escalade) and 1200D (Disc-O-Bed). Coleman doesn't publish a denier for the ComfortSmart Deluxe. Heavier fabric earns a point in our build score, but the bigger question is what happens when it tears. TETON, Disc-O-Bed, Helinox and ALPS (for the Ready Lite) all list a replacement bed for the cots here; Coleman lists none for its cots.

3. The warranty, read for what it leaves out

Terms here range from limited lifetime (TETON, ALPS) through 5 years (Helinox, Disc-O-Bed) to 1 year (Coleman). The fine print matters as much as the length. ALPS excludes normal wear and tear, UV damage and commercial use, and doesn't cover gear bought from unauthorized third-party retailers. Helinox requires purchase from an authorized dealer. Disc-O-Bed voids its warranty if parts are modified. TETON asks for proof of purchase from TETON or an authorized retailer. Keep the receipt, and buy from a seller the maker recognizes.

4. Length, width and height off the ground

Hold the published sleeping surface against your height lying down, pillow included. Coleman designs the 80-inch ComfortSmart Deluxe for sleepers up to 6 ft 6 in; the ALPS Escalade X-Large is 90 inches long. Height changes how a cot lives. A 6- to 6.5-inch cot (ALPS Ready Lite, Helinox Cot One) packs small but is a low sit, while a 19.5- to 22.5-inch cot (TETON, Escalade) is easier to sit on and stand up from. 5. Warmth comes from what's on the cot

6. Weight, packed size and your tent come last

The picks here run from 4 lb 9.5 oz (Helinox Cot One) to 36 lb (Disc-O-Bed 2XL). Check the packed length against your trunk: the TETON packs to 45 inches, the Disc-O-Bed 2XL's bag is 47 inches long, and the Helinox is 21 inches. Then measure the tent floor against the set-up length, not the sleeping surface: the 2XL is 87.5 inches long outside, the TETON 86 inches in use, and the Escalade 90 inches.
