A cot made this list only if its maker publishes a length of 80 inches or more. The five that qualified are ranked by the one length every maker publishes, the cot's overall length, from 90 inches down to 80. Where a maker also publishes a separate sleeping area, we show it, because that's the number to hold against your height. Each pick still carries its Built-to-Last Score (build durability 30%, warranty 20%, replacement parts 15%, fit and comfort 20%, weight 15%), so we can tell you plainly where a shorter cot is the better-built one. Every figure is the maker's, read on 2026-09-22, and we haven't handled these cots; the bands are on our methodology page.

The five long cots, side by side

Overall length vs sleeping area: read the right number

A cot's frame is longer than the fabric you lie on, because the end bars that pull the bed tight sit at each end. TETON shows the gap clearly: the Outfitter XXL has an 80 x 35.5-inch sleeping surface inside an in-use footprint of 86 x 45 inches. The Disc-O-Bed 2XL has an 85-inch sleep area inside an 87.5-inch frame. Coleman lists both the Pack-Away's sleeping area and its overall length as 80 inches.

ALPS and Helinox publish only the overall figure: 90 x 35 inches for the Escalade X-Large and 83 x 29.5 inches for the Cot Max. Usable length on those two is somewhat less than the overall number, and neither maker says by how much. That is the one soft spot in the Escalade's lead. Its overall length beats the Disc-O-Bed 2XL's by 2.5 inches, but if you want a length that's guaranteed on paper, the 2XL's 85-inch sleep area is the longest published sleeping figure on this list.

Why the makers' height claims don't line up

Some makers print a sleeper height, and the numbers don't follow the lengths. Coleman says its 80-inch Pack-Away “fits campers up to 6 ft. 6 in. tall.” Disc-O-Bed says all its cots “fit users up to” 6 ft 4 in, including the 2XL, which it notes has “lots of extra space.” Coleman's own 73-inch Trailhead II is listed for campers up to 6 ft 2 in. So the cot with 5 more inches of sleep area carries a height figure 2 inches shorter. We found no sleeper height at all on the ALPS, TETON or Helinox pages for these cots.

That's why this page ranks on length, not on the claim. A height figure is the maker's judgment about comfort, made its own way; a length is a measurement you can check against yourself.

The ranking, pick by pick

1. ALPS Escalade X-Large: the longest cot, and the highest

ALPS lists the X-Large at 90 x 35 inches and 22.5 inches high. The height is the underrated half of its case for a tall sleeper: long legs make a low cot awkward to get out of, and 22.5 inches is the highest cot we score. ALPS rates it to 325 lb, builds it from powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors and a telescoping center support, angles the end legs to stop it rocking, uses 600D polyester, and covers it with a lifetime warranty against defects. The weak spot is parts: ALPS lists a replacement carry bag and says other parts are available “in some instances” by phone. It scores 7.0.

2. Disc-O-Bed 2XL: the longest sleep area, and the strongest

An 85 x 39.5-inch sleep area, rated to 600 lb by Disc-O-Bed, on 1200D PU-coated polyester with no center bar. It's the widest and most heavily rated cot on this list, and Disc-O-Bed sells the 2XL sleeping mat, end frames and rails individually. It outscores the Escalade (7.8 to 7.0) and gives up two things: a 14.5-inch deck, which is low for long legs, and 36 lb of weight. If you're tall and heavy, this is the one; our heavy-duty camping cot picks rank it against the other cots rated 500 lb or more.

3. TETON Outfitter XXL: the best-built cot at 80 inches

The Outfitter XXL is the highest-scoring cot we list (8.5): 600 lb, 600D canvas, a limited lifetime warranty and a spare-parts list that covers the canvas top, legs, end bars and feet. For a tall sleeper, it offers 80 x 35.5 inches of sleeping surface in an 86-inch frame, 19.5 inches high. If 80 inches fits you after the pillow-to-toes math, buy this one: it's the better cot, just not the longer one. It ranks third here only because this page ranks on length, and it tops our overall best camping cots.

4. Helinox Cot Max Convertible: the long cot you can carry

83 x 29.5 inches overall at 6 lb 1 oz, packed to 23.5 inches; Helinox calls it “our roomiest camp cot.” It's rated to 320 lb and covered for 5 years. The catches for a tall sleeper: 83 inches is the whole frame, it sits 6.5 inches off the ground unless you add Helinox's sold-separately leg extensions (15 inches with them), and its replacement sheet was sold out when we checked on 2026-09-22. 5. Coleman Pack-Away: 80 inches, 1-year warranty

Coleman gives the Pack-Away an 80 x 32-inch sleeping area and says it fits campers up to 6 ft 6 in. It's 17 inches high overall, rated to 300 lb, weighs 19.85 lb and comes with a removable side table. It finishes last on both counts that matter here: the shortest frame on the list, and the thinnest paper, with a 1-year limited warranty and no replacement canvas or parts from Coleman. It suits the tall camper who goes out a few nights a year; it isn't a cot to buy once.

Also worth knowing

• Tall couples. Kamp-Rite's Double Kwik-Cot has an 85 x 55-inch bed, rated to 500 lb total. For two sleepers, start with our best camping cots for two.
• A pad in the box. Coleman's ComfortSmart Deluxe is also 80 inches (80 x 30 x 15 inches), is designed for sleepers up to 6 ft 6 in and ships with a foam pad. If comfort is a bigger worry than length, see our camping cots for bad backs.
• Too short. The Helinox Cot One Convertible (75 inches), ALPS Ready Lite (78) and Coleman Trailhead II (73) all fall under 80 inches, so none made this list.

Buying a cot when you're tall: the checklist

Measure yourself lying down, not standing

Do the pillow-to-toes measurement from the math box above, then compare it with the maker's sleep area where one is published. Where only an overall length is published (ALPS, Helinox), allow for the end bars.

Measure the tent floor against the frame

A long cot needs a long tent. The set-up lengths here are 90 inches for the Escalade X-Large, 87.5 for the Disc-O-Bed 2XL, 86 for the TETON Outfitter XXL, 83 for the Helinox Cot Max and 80 for the Coleman Pack-Away. Check where the tent walls start to slope, too: a low cot like the 6.5-inch Helinox tucks under a sloping wall more easily than a 22.5-inch one.

Width matters more on a long cot

Widths run from 29.5 inches (Helinox Cot Max) through 32 (Coleman Pack-Away), 35 (ALPS Escalade) and 35.5 (TETON) to 39.5 (Disc-O-Bed 2XL). If you're tall and broad-shouldered, or sleep on your side with your knees out, the extra inches of width matter as much as the length.

Height off the ground: easier on long legs

The taller you are, the farther you fold to sit on a low cot and the harder you push to stand up from it. Published heights on this list run from 22.5 inches (ALPS Escalade X-Large) and 19.5 inches (TETON set-up height) to 17 inches (Coleman Pack-Away, overall), a 14.5-inch deck (Disc-O-Bed 2XL) and 6.5 inches (Helinox Cot Max, or 15 inches with its leg extensions). If you camp from a car and have the room, a higher cot is the easier one to live with night after night.

Check the rating against your weight

Three of the five are rated between 300 and 325 lb (Coleman Pack-Away 300, Helinox Cot Max 320, ALPS Escalade 325); the TETON and the 2XL are rated to 600 lb. The rating is the maker's, and sitting on the edge loads a cot harder than lying down does, so leave room between your weight and the number.

Get a pad as long as the cot

A short pad on a long cot leaves your feet on bare fabric. TETON sells a canvas camp pad sized for the Outfitter XXL; for the others, check the pad's length against the sleeping surface. Our best cot pads are ranked for use on a cot.
