Independence

No brand pays for placement, reviews or scores on Seat & Stake, and no brand sees a page before it's published. The site earns affiliate commissions (see the affiliate disclosure), and commissions never set a score or decide a pick. Scores come from the fixed bands on how we score, applied the same way to every product, so a product can't score higher because it pays more.

How products are chosen

We start from what buyers actually search for (the category head terms and the durability questions around them), then build a candidate list from the brands that keep coming up in those searches and on established review sites. A product makes a page only if it is currently listed on Amazon.com (so the buy button can exist), the maker publishes enough specs to score it, and it genuinely fits the page's use case. Store-exclusive house brands we can't link to may be mentioned for context but are never picks.

Sourcing standard

• Every technical fact is cited: rated capacity, dimensions, weight, packed size, frame, fabric, R-value, warranty terms and parts availability. Citations appear on the product card and in the page's Sources section with the date they were read.
• Source order: the manufacturer's own spec, warranty and parts pages first; a named authorized dealer's copy when the maker's site blocks automated reading; a published standard (such as ASTM F3340 for R-value); third-party publications only for context and always attributed by name.
• Conflicts: when two sources disagree, we use the maker's own page and note the discrepancy on the product.
• Missing data: when a figure isn't published, we write “not published” and it scores zero. We never estimate a number.
• Rated capacity is always attributed to the maker (“rated to 500 lb by the maker”), never presented as our finding.

What we don't claim

We haven't tested, owned, sat in or slept on the products on this site, and we don't say we have. Comfort is described from published measurements, not experience. We don't list credentials we don't hold, quote Amazon star ratings or review counts, print customer reviews as testimonials, or print prices that aren't from a live, time-stamped feed.

How pages are written

Pages are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and then checked against the cited sources before publication. Every spec, warranty term and parts claim on a page traces to a linked source; nothing is published on the strength of a model's memory. The byline is Mike M., who is responsible for what the site publishes. Copy is written in plain US English with numbers and units spelled out (“300 lb”, “17.5-inch seat”).

Update cadence

• Roundups and comparisons: re-checked at least every 90 days, and whenever a pick goes unavailable.
• Single-product reviews: every 90 days, including whether the alternatives are still valid.
• Guides: every six months, including whether the cited standards and maker documents are unchanged.
• Gift guides: before the fourth quarter and before Father's Day and Mother's Day.
• A page's “updated” date changes only when its content changes, never on a routine redeploy.

Corrections

If something on a page is wrong or out of date, use the contact form or email mike@blackironathletics.com. We check the claim against the source, fix it, and log the change with its date in the page's “Corrections & updates” list. Broken source links are fixed or the fact is marked for re-verification.
