How we picked

Every table here had a live Amazon listing when we checked on 2026-09-22 and a maker page we could cite. Each carries a Built-to-Last score from our published scoring rubric. For tables it weights build durability (the published load rating and what the top is made of) at 30%, the written warranty at 20%, fit (height, surface area, storage) at 25%, carry weight at 15% and listed replacement parts at 10%. Products we claim to have tested: 0. This is the main ranking in our camp tables and kitchen stands section. Cook stations and griddle stands do a different job, so they are ranked on their own pages.

The numbers, side by side

The Roll-a-Table leads at 7.6 without the biggest top or the highest rating. It wins on the paper behind it. CampTime says its warranty against defects in materials and workmanship has no time limit, and it sells the standard and adjustable legs, the cross bar, leg tips, a replacement roll-top and the storage bag. It also quotes full rebuilds by email and publishes assembly instructions for the leg and cross-bar swap. No other table here scores a 10 for repairability. CampTime builds it in Spokane, Washington.

The Lifetime 80387 is second at 7.2 on sheer load: 1,500 lb evenly distributed, three heights and a 10-year limited warranty. What drags it down is carry weight (23.5 lb) and parts you have to phone for. Below it, three tables sit within 0.2 points, and the lighter one wins the tie for most buyers. The ALPS Dining Table XL scores 6.5 to the Overlanding's 6.6 and weighs 14 lb against 17 lb 4 oz. The Helinox Table One scores 6.4 at 1 lb 13 oz, though it is a 15-inch-high side table rather than a dinner table.

Half of these tables publish no load rating

Load rating is the first input in our build score, and it is where camp tables are least forthcoming. ALPS publishes no load rating for the Overlanding Table or the Dining Table XL. Under our bands that scores 3, plus 1 for the aluminum top. Both ALPS tables still rank third and fourth because the rest of their paper is excellent: a warranty for the life of the product and a replacement top and legs listed by part number.

The published figures need reading closely too:

• Lifetime 80387, 1,500 lb: the figure is “when evenly distributed” and appears on the Target listing sold and shipped by Lifetime. WebstaurantStore lists the same number. Lifetime's own product page doesn't print it, though it does say the table exceeds ANSI/BIFMA standards.
• Coleman Pack-Away 4-in-1, 300 lb: a Coleman Consumer Care answer on the product page (“a maximum loading capacity of 300 pounds”), not a spec-sheet line.
• Helinox Table One Hard Top, 110 lb: Helinox rates it at 50 kg “when assembled.”
• Camp Time Roll-a-Table, 100 lb: CampTime's stated capacity.

Height and surface: what you'll actually do at it

The published heights run from 15 inches (Helinox) to 36 inches (the Overlanding's top leg position). Our rubric gives a point for a working height of 28 inches or more and another for height you can adjust. Three tables earn both:

• Camp Time Roll-a-Table: 12 settings from 19 to 30 inches. CampTime is candid that legs set to 30 inches are “much more flexible” than at 19. Above 28 inches it suggests strapping two tables together, bracing against a wall or tree, or pushing the legs into sand.
• Lifetime 80387: 24, 29 and 34 inches on a steel frame, so it covers sitting, prep and standing work.
• ALPS Overlanding: 29, 31 and 36 inches on steel legs, the tallest standing setting here.

The Dining Table XL is fixed at 28 inches. The Coleman has three settings, but Coleman lists only its 27.6-inch overall height, not the individual steps. The Helinox stands 15 inches tall, which suits the low, packable chairs in our compact camping chair rankings rather than a standard camp chair. Surface area, from the published dimensions: 1,540 sq in on the Dining Table XL (55 x 28), 1,297 on the Overlanding, 1,152 on the Lifetime (48 x 24), 1,024 on the Roll-a-Table (32 x 32), 989 on the Coleman with both halves joined and 357 on the Helinox (23 x 15.5). Our rubric scores 1,000 sq in and up as a full family surface, so the Coleman misses by 11 square inches.

What the top is made of decides what it can take

Six tables, five different tops. The two ALPS tables use aluminum roll-tops, which earn the extra build point in our rubric. The Lifetime uses UV-protected high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The Coleman uses a mosaic laminate, and Coleman Consumer Care warns that prolonged exposure to rain could damage or warp it. The Roll-a-Table's 11-segment top is laminated wood completely covered by water-resistant fabric. The Helinox top is a polycarbonate sheet inside a 600D polyester sleeve.

One thing none of the six makers publishes is a heat or stove rating for the top. If you cook on a camp stove or a tabletop griddle, put it on a surface the maker rates for heat. GCI, for example, says the aluminum top on its Slim-Fold Cook Station is for camp stoves, griddles and hot cookware, and rates it to 48 lb. Parts and paper: where these tables really split

A camp table wears at three places: its legs, its top and the joints between them. Whether you can buy the part that failed decides whether the table gets fixed or thrown out, and on that question these six makers could hardly be further apart.

That is why the Coleman, with the second-highest load figure on the page, finishes last at 5.2. A 300 lb table you can't get a leg for is a one-year table on paper. The ALPS pair shows the opposite trade: no load rating at all, but a lifetime warranty and a new top on the shelf if you need one.

What didn't make the list

Smaller roll-tops. ALPS's 6 lb, 28-inch-square Camp Table and the large Mountain Summit Gear roll-top are ranked with the Roll-a-Table in our best roll-up camping tables. The ALPS is small for a family table here, and the Mountain Summit Gear carries no published warranty.

Tables with the seats built in. Picnic-style sets are a different buy, since you're judging bench ratings as well as the top. They have their own chair and table set rankings.

Buyer's guide: a camping table you buy once

Decide the table's job before its size

Eating, prep and cooking want different tables. A dinner table wants surface area at a sitting height, like the Dining Table XL. A prep table wants a standing height and a stiff frame, like the Lifetime at 34 inches or the Overlanding at 36. A cooking surface wants a heat rating none of these tables has. If you cook, plan on two surfaces: a heat-rated one for the stove and a table for eating and chopping. Our camp kitchen setup guide lays out how the pieces fit together.

Read the load rating's fine print, or notice it's missing

A maker that publishes a load rating is telling you where its own limit is. When it doesn't, as with all three ALPS tables we score, our build score drops, and you should load the table like the number is modest: heavy items over the legs, nothing sitting on the edge. When the rating is “evenly distributed,” as with the Lifetime's 1,500 lb, remember that a cooler or stove concentrates its weight.

Measure the packed length against your vehicle

Packed sizes on this page: 16 x 4.5 x 5 inches (Helinox), 31.5 x 9.5 x 6.5 (Overlanding), 32 inches long by 5.5 in diameter (Roll-a-Table), 32.2 x 3.2 x 16.7 (Coleman) and 53 x 9 x 6 (Dining Table XL). Lifetime says only that the 80387 folds flat, and it stays 4 feet long. Measure your cargo space before you commit to a 53-inch bag or a 4-foot slab.

Open the parts page before you buy

The strongest predictor of a long-lived table on this page isn't the load rating. It's whether the maker sells the leg or top you'll eventually bend. CampTime and ALPS list both; Helinox lists the top. Lifetime takes orders by phone, and Coleman doesn't sell legs or the connecting bracket. If a table lives in your truck for a decade, that difference will matter more than a few pounds of weight.

Pick the ultralight table only for what it is

The Helinox Table One is a well-supported product (a 5-year warranty, a replacement top on the shelf, 110 lb rating) but it is 23 x 15.5 inches at 15 inches high, room for a plate and a drink.
