Frequently asked
How much weight can a camping chair hold?
Whatever its maker rates it for, and published ratings vary widely between standard folding chairs and heavy-duty models. A rating is usually a static load, so leave headroom above your own weight. Camping chair weight limits, explained covers what the number does and doesn't mean.
How long do camping chairs last?
It depends on what fails first: the fabric at the seams, the rivets and hubs, or the feet. The length of the written warranty and whether the maker sells replacement seat fabric are the best published hints. See how long camping chairs last.
Which camping chairs have a lifetime warranty?
Some brands put a limited lifetime warranty in writing and others offer one year or publish nothing. We quote every term from the maker's page, dated, in camping chair warranties, compared.
What is the best camping chair?
The one with the highest Built-to-Last Score for how you'll use it. Our overall ranking is the best camping chairs; for bigger frames see the best heavy-duty camping chairs.
Can a torn camping chair be fixed?
Often, yes: small tears can be patched or sewn, and some makers sell replacement seat fabric so the frame gets a second life. Don't exceed the rated capacity after a repair. See how to fix a torn camping chair.
Is a cot better than an air mattress?
A cot gets you off the ground and can't go flat; an air mattress packs smaller and is usually warmer only if it's insulated. Many campers put an insulated pad on a cot for the best of both. See cot vs air mattress.
Do you need a sleeping pad with a cot?
In cool weather, usually yes: air circulates under a cot and pulls heat from you, so a pad adds the insulation the cot lacks. See the best cot pads and how to stay warm on a cot.
How much weight can a camping cot hold?
Again, the maker's rating decides, and it ranges from standard cots to heavy-duty models rated far higher. Frame design and leg count matter as much as the number. See camping cot weight capacity.
What R-value do I need for a camping mattress?
Higher R-value means more insulation from cold ground. Look for a rating measured to ASTM F3340, the industry test method, so numbers compare fairly between brands. See camping mattress R-value, explained.
Is a self-inflating mattress better than an air mattress?
Self-inflating pads have a foam core that still insulates if punctured; air mattresses pack smaller and can be thicker. See self-inflating vs air mattress.
How do I find a leak in a camping mattress?
Inflate it, then brush soapy water over the surface and valve and watch for bubbles. Check the valve first. See how to fix a camping mattress leak.
What height should a camping table be?
It depends on the job: dining height works for eating, while cooking and prep are easier at a taller working height. See the camping table height guide.
What do sports parents need on the sideline?
A chair that opens fast and survives the walk from the far lot, shade, and a seat for bleacher days. See soccer mom must-haves and the best sideline chairs.
Did you test these products yourselves?
No, and every page says so: products we claim to have tested, 0. Scores come from published specs, written warranties and parts listings, using the fixed bands on how we score. Every spec links to its source.
Why don't you show prices?
Amazon changes prices constantly, and we won't print a number we can't verify. Buy buttons read “Check price on Amazon” until a live, time-stamped price feed is connected.
How is Seat & Stake funded?
