How we picked

A cot made this list only if its maker rates it to 500 lb or more per sleeper, which rules out double cots whose single rating is shared by two people. The five that qualified are ranked by rating first (600 lb ahead of 500 lb) and then by our Built-to-Last Score, which weighs build durability 30%, the written warranty 20%, replacement parts 15%, fit and comfort 20% and weight 15%. The two orders happen to agree. Every figure is the maker's, read on 2026-09-22; we haven't handled these cots, and the scoring bands are on our methodology page. The heavy-duty cots, side by side

The fifth pick, the Disc-O-Bed 2XL Bunk, is two 2XL cots joined with stack adapters. Its figures are per cot, the same as the 2XL single above, and its full spec sheet is on its card below.

What a 500 or 600 lb rating does and doesn't tell you

A rated capacity is the maker's claim, and each maker words it differently. TETON says the Outfitter XXL “supports up to” 600 lb. Disc-O-Bed says most of its cots are “guaranteed to a weight tolerance” of 500 lb per single cot, and lists 600 lb for the 2XL. REDCAMP says its cot “supports up to 500 lbs.” None of those statements says how the number was measured, whether it assumes a sleeper lying still, or how much margin sits between the rating and the point where something bends. None of these makers cites an industry test standard for its figure, and we won't invent one.

So read a rating as the maker's ceiling for one person lying on the cot. Disc-O-Bed spells out the one-person part in its FAQ: “Only one person allowed on each bed level.”

Real use isn't lying still. When you sit on the edge to pull on boots, most of your weight goes onto one side rail and the strip of fabric beside it instead of spreading along the bed. When you drop onto a cot, kneel on it to reach the tent door, or a kid bounces on it, the moving weight briefly pushes harder than the same weight at rest. No maker here publishes how much harder, so there's no honest multiplier to give you. The practical answer is headroom: buy a rating comfortably above your weight so edge-sitting and rough landings still fall well inside it.

What backs the rating up: frame, fabric, legs

A rating is only as believable as the hardware under it, so our build score adds a point for sleeping fabric of 600D or heavier, and each card lists the frame. All five picks clear that fabric bar.

• TETON Outfitter XXL: IronStretch 600D Oxford canvas on steel X-legs (the same page's spec block also says “Frame Type: Aluminum,” so we show both). TETON's parts list covers middle and outer legs and tells owners to order six feet for a cot, so the load sits on three sets of legs.
• Disc-O-Bed 2XL and XL: powder-coated anti-rust steel frames and 1200D PU-coated polyester, the heaviest published fabric we list, joined with tool-free discs. Disc-O-Bed publishes “no center bar,” so nothing crosses under the sleeper.
• REDCAMP Oversized: a steel frame on 14 legs, with 600D Oxford fabric.

Two of those makers go further. TETON and Disc-O-Bed both sell the sleeping fabric and the frame pieces for these cots, and both publish instructions for fitting the bed, which is why they score 10 on repairability. On a heavy-duty cot that matters: the rating only holds while the fabric and joints are intact, and those are exactly the parts a maker can send you. Why the TETON leads

The TETON Outfitter XXL and the Disc-O-Bed 2XL carry the same 600 lb rating and the same perfect build score, so the ranking comes down to paper, weight and height. TETON backs its cot with a limited lifetime warranty against defects; Disc-O-Bed gives 5 years. The TETON weighs 26 lb; the 2XL weighs 36 lb. And the TETON stands 19.5 inches tall set up (TETON publishes no separate deck height), against the 2XL's published 14.5-inch deck, so it's the easier of the two to sit on and stand up from.

The 2XL answers with more bed: 85 x 39.5 inches against 80 x 35.5, and no center bar. That adds up to a 0.7 gap in the TETON's favor (8.5 to 7.8), and the TETON is the right call for most heavy campers. If you sleep sprawled or need the length, the 2XL's extra 5 inches of length and 4 inches of width are worth the extra 10 lb. Choosing between the three Disc-O-Beds

Three of the five picks are Disc-O-Beds, and they're one system in different sizes. The 2XL single is the big one: 600 lb, an 85 x 39.5-inch sleep area and 36 lb. The XL single drops to 500 lb and 79 x 35 inches, but it weighs 29.5 lb, packs into a 39.5-inch bag and measures 82 inches long outside, so it suits a smaller tent and trunk. Its 11-inch deck is the lowest on this page.

The 2XL Bunk is two 2XL cots with stack adapters, rated 600 lb per cot and 1,200 lb stacked (“600lbs per level,” in Disc-O-Bed's bunk manual), at 86 lb for the pair. Stacked, it stands 46 inches tall with the top cot at 40 inches; unstacked, the two cots stand alone as singles. For two heavy sleepers in one tent, it's the only setup on this list where each person gets a 600 lb cot, and our best camping cots for two compares it with the true double cots. All three Disc-O-Beds share the 5-year warranty and the same maker store, where each size's sleeping mat, the end frames, rails and discs are listed individually.

The REDCAMP caveat

The REDCAMP Oversized earns its place on the rating: REDCAMP rates it to 500 lb on a 14-leg steel frame with 600D Oxford fabric, 33.5 inches wide and 20.5 inches high. That gives it a 9 on build, the same as the Disc-O-Bed XL. Then the paper runs out. REDCAMP publishes no warranty term, only a 30-day return policy. It lists no replacement parts, and it doesn't publish the cot's weight. Our bands score those 0, 0 and 3, which is why it finishes at 4.4.

It suits a hunting camp, a guest bed or a trip where you need the rating a few nights a year. If you want a heavy-duty cot you can keep in service, the TETON and the Disc-O-Beds are the ones with a written warranty and a parts list behind them.

Big cots that didn't qualify

• Coleman Airbed Cot - Queen. Coleman rates it to 600 lb, but that's one figure for a 59-inch-wide queen bed two people share. It's an air mattress on a steel frame, with a 1-year warranty and no cot parts from Coleman.
• Kamp-Rite Double Kwik-Cot. Kamp-Rite rates it to 500 lb total for an 85 x 55-inch bed, so the rating is split between two sleepers.
• ALPS Mountaineering Escalade X-Large. At 90 inches it's the longest cot we score, but ALPS rates it to 325 lb. It leads our camping cots for tall people.
• A Coleman “big and tall” cot. Coleman's current camping-cot lineup lists no model by that name. Its 80-inch Pack-Away fits campers up to 6 ft 6 in by Coleman's figure, but Coleman rates it to 300 lb.

Buying a heavy-duty cot: the checklist

Check whether the rating is per cot or per bed

A single cot is rated for one sleeper. Doubles and bunks are where the wording matters. Disc-O-Bed rates the 2XL Bunk at 600 lb per cot and 1,200 lb stacked, while Kamp-Rite's 500 lb for the Double Kwik-Cot and Coleman's 600 lb for the Airbed Cot - Queen are single figures for a bed two people share. If a listing just says “600 lb,” find the maker's page and check which kind of number it is.

Plan for the weight you'll carry

Heavy-duty cots are heavy. The singles here weigh 26 lb (TETON) to 36 lb (Disc-O-Bed 2XL), the 2XL Bunk is 86 lb for the pair, and REDCAMP doesn't publish a weight. Packed lengths run from the Disc-O-Bed XL's 39.5-inch bag to the TETON's 45-inch pack and the 2XL's 47-inch bag, so measure the trunk before you buy.

Match the height to how you get up

Deck and set-up heights here run from 11 inches (Disc-O-Bed XL) and 14.5 inches (2XL) to 19.5 inches (TETON) and 20.5 inches (REDCAMP). A higher cot is easier to sit on and stand up from. If getting up is the hard part, our camping cots for bad backs weighs height more heavily.

On a heavy-duty cot, a torn bed doesn't have to end the cot. Disc-O-Bed sells each size's sleeping mat through its own store, and TETON lists the canvas top and frame parts and takes orders by email. Both warranties are written around materials and workmanship (TETON adds that “normal wear and tear are not defects”), so the parts list is what keeps the cot going once the fabric wears. Keep proof of purchase: TETON asks for it, from TETON or an authorized retailer.

Put a pad on it

None of the five picks lists a pad in its published specs. TETON pairs the Outfitter XXL with its own canvas camp pad, sold separately. On a wide deck like the 2XL's 39.5 inches, check the pad's width against the bed; our best cot pads are ranked for use on a cot.
