Four setups in our cot registry sleep two adults and have a listing we could confirm on Amazon: two Disc-O-Bed bunk kits and two double-width cots. Each is scored on the same Built-to-Last rubric as every cot in our camping cot section (build durability 30%, warranty 20%, repairability 15%, fit and comfort 20%, portability 15%), using only the makers' spec pages, written warranty terms and parts listings. One convention matters more on this page than anywhere else on the site. We score the capacity figure the maker publishes: per cot where it gives one, and the total where it doesn't. That means a bunk kit's number and a double cot's number don't describe the same thing, so read the capacity section below before you compare them.

The numbers, side by side

Two cots or one bed: decide this first

The four picks split cleanly into two designs. The Disc-O-Bed kits are two single cots that ship with stack adapters and locking straps, and Disc-O-Bed's own pitch for both is “Bunk it, bench it, turn it into two cots.” Each cot carries its own rating, its own 1200D deck and its own carry bag. The Kamp-Rite Double Kwik-Cot and the Coleman Airbed Cot - Queen are one frame and one sleeping surface, which is what most couples picture when they search for a camping cot for two.

That difference changes what the capacity number means. Disc-O-Bed rates each 2XL cot to 600 lb and each XL cot to 500 lb, and its bunk instructions put the stacked totals at 1,200 lb and 1,000 lb. The 2XL manual spells it out as “600lbs per level.” Kamp-Rite rates the Double Kwik-Cot to “500 lbs (total).” Coleman rates the Airbed Cot - Queen to 600 lb, and since it's one bed, that's one number for both of you.

Floor space is the other half of the decision. Bunked, the XL kit stands on one cot's footprint, 82 x 39.5 inches, and rises 36 inches with the top deck at 32. The 2XL kit needs 87.5 x 44.5 inches and 46 inches of height, with the top deck at 40. Set side by side, two XL cots need at least 79 inches of width and two 2XL cots at least 89. The Kamp-Rite sets up at 85 x 55 x 19 inches, and the Coleman measures 78 x 59 x 22. Both Disc-O-Bed bunk manuals set the same rules: “Only one person allowed on each level,” and never a child under 6 on the top bed.

Why the Disc-O-Bed kits outscore the doubles

On build durability, fit and portability, all four picks score within a point of each other on every metric. Every one weighs over 30 lb and lands in the lowest portability band. The gap between the lower Disc-O-Bed kit (7.3) and the best double (5.9) is almost entirely paperwork.

In practice it means this. If a Disc-O-Bed mat tears after the warranty ends, Disc-O-Bed's store sells a replacement mat sized for that cot, and the assembly instructions show the rails sliding into the mat sleeves, the same steps as a swap. Kamp-Rite lists no bed fabric or frame parts for the Double Kwik-Cot, and Coleman's parts catalog has no cot category. Between the two kits, the 2XL wins on capacity (600 vs 500 lb per cot), length (85 vs 79 inches), width (39.5 vs 35 inches) and bottom-deck height (15.5 vs 11 inches on the bunk pages). The XL wins on weight, 62.5 lb for the pair against 86, and on packed size, with 39.5-inch bags to the 2XL's 47. Disc-O-Bed says all its cots fit users up to 6 ft 4 in, with more room in the 2XL. If both of you are well under 500 lb and your tent is short or low, the XL gives up 0.5 points and saves 23.5 lb. Taller than that? Our camping cots for tall people start at 80 inches. The true doubles: what a shared surface costs

The Kamp-Rite Double Kwik-Cot is the one to buy if sleeping side by side on one surface is the point. Kamp-Rite lists an 85 x 55-inch bed 19 inches off the ground, a 600D fabric base on a powder-coated frame, a padded head section and a mesh storage hammock underneath, and it folds to 42 x 11 x 11 inches. It weighs 33 lb by the product specs (the same page also says 37 lb). What holds it back is the paperwork: a “1-year unlimited warranty from manufacture defect,” a replacement carry bag as the only listed part, and a 500 lb rating that covers both of you. Skip it if you and your partner together come anywhere near that number.

The Coleman Airbed Cot - Queen puts a queen air mattress (Coleman's AirTight system, ComfortStrong coils and a Double Lock valve) on a folding steel frame with a 22-inch bed height and two side tables. Coleman rates it to 600 lb, the highest shared rating here. The limits are length, since Coleman designs it for people up to 6 ft on a 78-inch bed; weight, since at 42.6 lb it's the heaviest single piece on this page; and the paperwork, with 1 year of warranty and no cot parts. What we left out, and why

REDCAMP's 2 Person Camping Cot has a 59-inch-wide sleeping surface with a built-in padded mattress, and REDCAMP says it “Supports up to 1000 lbs.” But REDCAMP publishes no warranty term on the product page or in its policies, only a 30-day return policy, and we couldn't confirm an Amazon listing. Kamp-Rite's Double Tent Cot and Compact Tent Cot Double are both rated to 500 lb, but both showed “Out of stock” on kamprite.com when we checked. A two-sleeper cot has to clear both checks, a warranty we can read and a listing you can buy, to make this list.

Add both weights, then read how the rating is written

Total your weights and compare them to a shared rating, or compare each sleeper to a per-cot rating. A per-cot rating also means one person rolling over doesn't load the other's side. Measure the floor and the headroom

A double cot needs a floor at least as long and wide as its set-up size: 85 x 55 inches for the Kamp-Rite and 78 x 59 for the Coleman. A bunk needs vertical room too, at 36 inches for the XL kit and 46 for the 2XL. Tent walls slope toward the walls, so measure the height where the cot will actually stand, not at the peak.

Check that the bed fabric is sold

The sleeping fabric is a cot's main wear part, and on a double it carries two people. Before you buy, look for a replacement bed listed by the maker for that exact model. Among these four, only Disc-O-Bed lists one.

Plan the pads

The Coleman comes with its own air mattress. The Kamp-Rite has a padded head section, and the Disc-O-Bed decks are bare 1200D fabric, so plan on a pad for each sleeper. Think about the carry

A kit splits into two loads. Disc-O-Bed lists a single XL cot at 29.5 lb and a single 2XL at 36 lb, each in its own bag. A double is one load: 33 lb for the Kamp-Rite, which folds to 42 inches long, and 42.6 lb for the Coleman. If the walk from the car is long, two lighter bags beat one heavy one.
