Every mattress here comes from our mattress registry and carries its Built-to-Last Score: the ground-side fabric and a foam core (25%), the written warranty (20%), repairability (15%), fit and comfort (30%, covering R-value, thickness, width and top fabric) and weight (10%). For this page we added one hard rule before scoring: a ranked pick has to be one mattress built for two people in a tent, at least 50 inches wide. Then we ranked on width first, because width is the one thing a couple can't add later, and on the score after that. Every figure is the maker's own, read on 2026-09-22; the bands are on our scoring methodology page. Products we claim to have tested: 0.

Why this list is short

We'd rather rank three real two-person mattresses than pad the list with singles. Of the 17 mattresses, pads and cot pads in our registry, three are one-piece mattresses sold for two people in a tent: the Exped MegaMat Duo Queen, the Sea to Summit Comfort Deluxe Double and the SoundAsleep Camping Series Queen. Several well-built names are missing on purpose. Therm-a-Rest makes the MondoKing 3D only in single Large and XXLarge sizes. NEMO sells Roamer Double and Double Wide versions, but the Double is 40 inches wide, and on 2026-09-22 NEMO's site showed the Double Wide out of stock. The vehicle mattresses that fit two are shaped for a cargo floor or truck bed, not a tent.

The three mattresses, side by side

The table splits cleanly. The two foam mattresses publish the same kind of base (75D polyester), ASTM-linked R-values of 8.1 and 7.7, and 10 cm of foam each. The SoundAsleep is a different animal: 9 inches of PVC air with no published fabric thickness, R-value or weight, so its build, warmth and weight scores sit in our not-published bands. That's why it finishes at 3.9 against the foam mats' 7.4 and 7.8.

Why the MegaMat Duo ranks first

The Duo Queen is the only mattress in our registry that matches a home queen's footprint in one piece: 203 x 152 cm, or 79.9 x 59.8 inches, with one continuous foam core, so there's no gap between sleepers. Exped builds it from the same materials as its single MegaMat: 10 cm (3.9 inches) of foam with channels Exped enlarged for a smaller pack, a recycled 50D tricot polyester top and a recycled 75D polyester base, both TPU-laminated. It carries an ASTM R-value of 8.1, the highest of the three here, and comes with a Sidewinder Bag, a repair kit and a Top-Up Pump.

On durability it scores 8 for build, 7 for Exped's 5-year warranty and 5 for repairability: Exped sells a Field Repair Kit with UV-curing glue and TPU patches, lists no replacement valve, and repairs mats in its own workshops, saying failures from “normal wear, negligence, and acts of nature can usually be repaired for a nominal charge.”

Here's the honest part. The Duo's overall score is 7.4, and the Sea to Summit Double below scores 7.8. The gap is a lifetime warranty and 3 lb less weight on the Sea to Summit side, against slightly better repairability on the Exped side. We rank the Exped first anyway because it gives each sleeper nearly 4 more inches, and because a couple that outgrows a narrow mattress buys a second one, which is the opposite of buying once. If your tent floor is narrower than 60 inches, or the longest warranty matters most to you, the Sea to Summit is the better buy.

What the Duo asks of you: 11.9 lb and a 31.5 x 11.8-inch pack, and a tent floor about 60 inches wide. Exped also makes a Duo LW+ at 197 x 132 cm (77.6 x 52.0 inches, 9.7 lb) and a Duo M at 183 x 104 cm (72.0 x 40.9 inches, 7.3 lb). The LW+ matches the Sea to Summit Double's width; the M is narrower than two singles side by side.

The Sea to Summit Comfort Deluxe Double: the lifetime-warranty double

The Comfort Deluxe Double is the same mattress as Sea to Summit's single Comfort Deluxe, built 78 x 52 inches: 4 inches of polyurethane foam, an R-value of 7.7 that Sea to Summit calls “ASTM tested,” a stretch-knit top and a solution-dyed 75D woven polyester base. It weighs 143.2 oz (8.95 lb) and packs to 27 x 10 x 10 inches. Sea to Summit fits XPEL valves and an Airstream pump sack.

Its warranty is the reason it outscores the Duo: Sea to Summit's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship for the life of the product, excluding normal wear and tear. Its weakness is parts. Sea to Summit lists no mat valve or patch kit online; you request spare parts or a paid repair through its contact form. And availability is patchy: on 2026-09-22 the Double was listed as sold out on seatosummit.com, though Amazon listings for it turned up in our check the same day.

The air mattress option: SoundAsleep Camping Series Queen

Couples who want height and a big surface often reach for a queen air mattress. The SoundAsleep Camping Series Queen is the only one in our registry: 78 x 58 inches and 9 inches thick, PVC with I-beam support, a rechargeable external pump that needs no outlet at camp, and a storage bag. SoundAsleep puts a patch kit in the box and publishes a guide to finding and patching leaks.

It scores 3.9, and here's why. SoundAsleep publishes no R-value, no weight and no PVC thickness. Its Limited 1-Year Warranty covers manufacturer's defects but not “punctures and holes from use,” and applies to purchases from SoundAsleep's own site or Amazon listings sold by SoundAsleep Products, not other sellers. No R-value means you can't compare its warmth with the foam mattresses at all; if your ground runs cold, plan on an insulated layer underneath. Two singles instead of one double

For a lot of couples, the most durable double isn't a double. Two wide singles side by side cover a queen-sized floor, and each sleeper gets a separate mattress, a separate valve and a separate warranty claim if something fails. Using the makers' own figures:

• Two Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D XXLarge: 60 x 80 inches together, 5 lb 8 oz each, 4.25 inches of foam, R 7 and a limited lifetime warranty on each. Therm-a-Rest says the MondoKing “mates perfectly with other 3D mattresses,” without saying how.
• Two Exped MegaMat LXW: 60.6 x 77.6 inches together, 5.7 lb each (11.4 lb total, against 11.9 lb for the Duo Queen), R 8.1 and 5-year warranties.
• Two NEMO Roamer Single Wide: 60 x 80 inches together. NEMO builds toggles and loops into its Single and Single Wide sizes to connect two pads, and gives a lifetime warranty, but publishes no fabric denier, and the Single Wide was out of stock on NEMO's site on 2026-09-22.
• Two Sea to Summit Comfort Deluxe Large Wide: 60 x 78 inches together at 84.3 oz each. Note that Sea to Summit's FAQ says its coupler loops won't work on Comfort Deluxe mats, so nothing holds them together.

The trade is the seam. Two mattresses leave a join down the middle and can drift apart unless the maker builds in a way to connect them; one continuous core doesn't. On the other hand, one sleeper's movement is less likely to reach the other across two separate mats. Buyer's guide: a two-person camping mattress that lasts

Couples have one extra constraint most buyers don't: two bodies, one tent floor. Work through these in order. Every mattress guide and comparison is collected in the camping mattresses hub.

Measure the tent, then the mattress

Compare the tent's floor dimensions with the mattress, not the tent's person count. The Duo Queen needs about 60 x 80 inches of flat floor, the SoundAsleep 58 x 78 inches and the Sea to Summit Double 52 x 78 inches. Tent walls slope in, so the usable width at mattress height is less than the floor, and a 9-inch air mattress meets the slope sooner than a 4-inch foam mat.

Width per person beats total size

Halve the width and hold it against your shoulders. 29.9 inches each on the Exped, 29 on the SoundAsleep, 26 on the Sea to Summit. If either of you is broad-shouldered or restless, width is the spec to prioritize.

Read the warranty for the failure you're likely to have

Punctures are the common failure on any inflatable, and none of these warranties covers them. SoundAsleep excludes punctures and holes from use in writing; Exped and Sea to Summit cover defects and repair other damage for a charge. That makes a patch kit you can buy, and a maker that repairs mats, worth more than the headline term. Exped sells its Field Repair Kit online; Sea to Summit handles parts by request.

Warmth for two

Sharing a mattress doesn't change what's under it. The Exped's R-value of 8.1 and the Sea to Summit's 7.7 are both tied to the ASTM F3340 test by their makers, which makes them comparable with each other. The SoundAsleep publishes none. Weight capacity isn't published for these

Exped, Sea to Summit and SoundAsleep publish no weight limit for the three mattresses here. Some vehicle mattresses do: Luno rates its AIR BASE Vehicle Mattress and AIR Truck Bed Mattress to 300 lb per side, and Napier describes the Sportz Air Mattress as “durable construction for up to 400lbs.”

Sleeping in the vehicle instead?

If the two of you sleep in an SUV or a truck bed, a tent mattress is the wrong shape.
