The verdict
A note on method. We do not own or test this bed. This review reads Disc-O-Bed's own product pages, its FAQ, its parts store listings and the L/XL bunk assembly PDF, and quotes every figure from the document it came from. The score follows our published rubric. Where Disc-O-Bed publishes two different figures for the same thing, we say so rather than pick the flattering one.
What the Disc-O-Bunk actually is
People search for “Disc-O-Bunk” and find three or four different product names, so it is worth being precise. Disc-O-Bed does not sell a bunk as a single integrated bed. It sells cots, and it sells the adapters that stack them.
The XL Bunk is two Disc-O-Bed XL single cots in the box, plus stack adapters and locking straps. Assembled as a bunk, one cot sits on top of the other and the pair occupies the floor space of one cot. Unstacked, you have two independent 500-lb-rated cots that can go in separate tents. That modularity is the actual product, and it is the thing to weigh against a conventional double cot: you are buying two beds that can also be one.
The discs are the mechanism. Each end frame terminates in a disc that the side rails clamp into, which is how the same frame can take a side rail at cot height or a stack adapter at bunk height. It also means the frame comes apart into pieces small enough to replace individually, which is where the parts catalog comes from.
What Disc-O-Bed publishes
Disc-O-Bed is one of the more forthcoming makers in this category: it prints the capacity, the sleeping surface, both bunk heights, the frame material, the fabric denier, the weight and the packed size, and it publishes the assembly manuals as PDFs. For a durability buyer that matters more than any single value, because you cannot compare what a maker will not put in writing.
500 lb per cot, 1,000 lb as a bunk
Disc-O-Bed rates each XL cot to 500 lb and the stacked bunk to 1,000 lb total. In our registry only the TETON Outfitter XXL and the Disc-O-Bed 2XL go higher, at 600 lb.
What that rating buys is margin, and margin is the whole durability argument for a cot. A cot fails when the deck tears away from its hem or an end bar bends under a load applied off center, and both are functions of how much headroom the frame has over the weight actually on it. At 500 lb a 200 lb sleeper loads the cot to 40% of its rating, so deck tension stays well inside its design range even when you sit down hard on one edge — which is exactly what happens every time you put your boots on. We argue the case for buying margin rather than buying to your own weight in camping cot weight capacity.
The 1200D polyester deck is the other half of that. It is the heaviest cot fabric anybody in our registry publishes, and it earns the XL Bunk the fabric bonus on our build-durability band. Disc-O-Bed also states there is no center bar under the sleeper on its single cots — the bunk is two single cots joined — which is the detail side sleepers care about most, because a bar under the hip is the specific thing that drives people off cots.
The parts store is the product
This is the row that decides the review. Disc-O-Bed runs a replacement-parts store and lists, for the XL specifically: the 35-inch sleeping mat, the straight end frame, the rails, the discs, the rubber foot plugs and a set-of-four leg extension. It also publishes the L/XL bunk assembly PDF showing how the mats fit the frames.
Put that next to the rest of the category. Coleman told us its cot canvas is not sold separately. Most cot makers list nothing at all, or will discuss parts only by email. TETON is the other good citizen here and sells its cot top — the comparison across every brand we hold is in cot replacement parts by brand.
The practical consequence: the failure that retires most cots is the deck, and on this one the deck is a part you order rather than a bed you replace. Add the frame and hardware parts and the published assembly document, and this earns the top repairability band on our rubric. If you buy camp furniture expecting to own it for a decade, this is the single most valuable thing on the spec sheet, and almost nobody advertises it.
The warranty, and what it leaves out
Disc-O-Bed's FAQ states a 5-year warranty on all materials and workmanship. On our bands that is a 7 out of 10 — well above the one-year terms Coleman and Kamp-Rite publish, and below the limited lifetime that ALPS and TETON put on their cots.
Read it as what it is: a defect warranty, not a wear warranty. A deck that stretches out after six seasons of normal use is not a defect, and no maker in this category covers it. That is precisely why the parts catalog matters more than the warranty length here — five years of defect coverage plus a purchasable deck beats a lifetime defect warranty with nothing to buy when the fabric gives. Every cot and chair term we hold is quoted with the date we read it in our warranty comparison.
The three real limits
It is two 35-inch cots, not a double bed. Side by side you get two separate 79 x 35-inch surfaces with a frame rail between them, not one shared 70-inch surface. If what you want is to share a bed with a partner, this is the wrong product and a conventional double cot or a queen pad is the right one — both are ranked in best camping cots for two.
62.5 lb in two bags. Each bag is 39.5 x 15.5 x 4.5 inches. That is a vehicle-only load and a two-trip carry, and it is why portability scores 3 out of 10. The lightest cot we score, the Helinox Cot One Convertible, is 4 lb 9.5 oz for one sleeper.
Stacked, it is tall. The bottom cot sits 11 inches up and the top cot at 32 inches, so you need a tent that is genuinely tall through the middle, not just at the peak. Measure your tent's usable interior height before you buy — the footprint-versus-deck trap and every published cot height we hold are collected in our camping cot size guide.
The rules Disc-O-Bed sets
Where the 7.3 comes from
Build durability 9 of 10: 500 lb per cot puts it in the 500-599 band, plus the point for a published 1200D deck. Warranty 7: a 5-year written term. Repairability 10: the main wear part, the frame and hardware parts, and a published assembly document — the top band, which in our cot registry only Disc-O-Bed earns. Fit and comfort 6: an 80-inch-plus deck, 35 inches of width and no center bar earn points, while 11 inches of ground clearance on the bottom cot and no included pad do not. Portability 3: 62.5 lb is over every band.
Weighted on the cot rubric — build 30, warranty 20, repair 15, fit 20, portability 15 — that comes out at 7.3. The shape of that score is the honest summary of the product: it is built and supported better than almost anything in the category, and it is heavy and narrow per sleeper.
The alternatives
Disc-O-Bed 2XL Bunk. The same system, larger: 600 lb per cot, 85 x 39.5-inch decks, 1,200 lb as a bunk, four stabilizer bars, and a 40-inch mat sold as a part. It also weighs 86 lb and stands 46 inches tall stacked, with the top deck at 40 inches. Buy it if the sleepers are big or tall and the tent is large; the two are separated properly in best heavy-duty camping cots.
Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot. The opposite approach: one shared 85 x 55-inch surface on a single frame, rated to 500 lb total rather than per person, at 33 lb by Kamp-Rite's own spec. Half the weight of the Disc-O-Bed pair and genuinely a double bed — against a one-year warranty, a single listed part and no modularity at all.
A single cot plus a wide pad. If only one person needs to be off the ground, the TETON Outfitter XXL is the highest-scoring cot we publish and is reviewed in full in our TETON Outfitter XXL review.

How we scored this
What goes into every pick
We read the maker's rated capacity, frame, fabric, dimensions and weight; quote the warranty from the maker's own warranty page with the date we read it; check whether seat fabric, cot canvas, feet, valves and legs are sold as replacement parts; and score all of it on a published rubric where durability and warranty carry half the weight. Every spec links to where it came from, and the live Amazon price sits in the button.
Scores are computed from that documented research with fixed bands, so two products are always measured the same way. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its bands are published.

Questions
Frequently asked
Is the Disc-O-Bed XL Bunk worth it?
For a vehicle-based camper with two sleepers, yes — it scores 7.3/10 here. You are paying for two 500-lb-rated cots that stack or split, 1200D decks with no center bar, a 5-year warranty, and a parts store that sells the mat, the end frames, the rails, the discs and the feet. You are not paying for portability: it is 62.5 lb in two bags.
How much weight can a Disc-O-Bed XL hold?
Disc-O-Bed rates each XL cot to 500 lb and the stacked bunk to 1,000 lb total. Only the TETON Outfitter XXL and Disc-O-Bed's own 2XL go higher in our registry, both at 600 lb per cot.
Can you use a Disc-O-Bunk as two separate cots?
Yes — that is the point of the system. The bunk is two single XL cots joined with stack adapters and locking straps. Remove the adapters and you have two independent 500-lb-rated cots that can go in different tents.
What size is the Disc-O-Bed XL Bunk?
Each cot has a 79 x 35-inch sleeping surface. Stacked, the bottom cot sits 11 inches off the ground and the top cot at 32 inches. Packed, it is two bags at 39.5 x 15.5 x 4.5 inches each, and the pair weighs 62.5 lb.
Can you buy replacement parts for a Disc-O-Bed?
Yes, and it is the strongest thing about it. Disc-O-Bed's store lists the 35-inch XL sleeping mat, straight end frames, rails, discs, rubber foot plugs and a leg-extension set, and it publishes the L/XL bunk assembly PDF. Disc-O-Bed is the only cot brand in our registry whose products reach the top repairability band.
Is a Disc-O-Bunk a double bed?
No. Side by side it is two 35-inch decks separated by a frame rail, not one shared surface. If you want to share a bed, look at a conventional double cot or a queen pad instead.
Can children sleep on the top bunk?
Disc-O-Bed's instructions allow one person per level and say children under six should not use the top bunk. For younger children the maker's Kid-O-Bunk is the purpose-built, lower option.
Did you test this cot?
No. We do not own or test the products we score, and we say so on every page. This review reads Disc-O-Bed's product pages, FAQ, parts-store listings and bunk assembly PDF; every value links to its source and the rubric is published at our methodology page.
