Helinox Chair One vs Chair Zero: is 13 ounces worth 55 pounds of rating?

The verdict

We haven't owned, sat in or used either chair. Every figure below is Helinox's, read from its product, warranty, FAQ and replacement-parts pages on 2026-09-22, and the scores follow our published scoring rubric. Durability rows first. Helinox publishes no seat height or seat width for either chair, so those rows are left out.

Rating and seat fabric: where the whole gap is

Helinox rates the Chair One to 320 lb and the Chair Zero to 265 lb. On our capacity bands that puts the Chair One in the 300 to 349 lb band and the Zero in the 250 to 299 lb band. Helinox doesn't say whether either figure is a static load (weight resting in the seat) or allows for the extra force of dropping into it, so treat the number as a ceiling and leave room under it. The seat fabric is the bigger durability difference. The Chair One's seat is bluesign-certified recycled 600D polyester, which Helinox calls OlWeave 600D Oxford, with mesh panels. The Chair Zero's seat is 100D aramid polyester ripstop. Denier is a measure of yarn weight, so the Chair One's seat is woven from much heavier yarn, and our rubric gives a point for 600D and heavier. The Zero's aramid-blend ripstop is how Helinox keeps that chair light. Helinox publishes no strength or abrasion figure for either fabric, so we can't tell you how much tougher one is in use. We can tell you which seat is the heavier fabric and which chair carries the higher rating: the Chair One, on both counts.

Frame and hubs

Both frames are Helinox's DAC aluminum alloy with shock-corded poles and resin hubs. For the Chair One, Helinox names the alloy (DAC TH72M) and describes nylon resin hubs and reinforced corners. For the Zero it says “proprietary DAC aluminum alloy” without naming the grade. Neither page publishes a pole diameter or wall thickness, so we don't score one frame above the other. The Chair One XL, covered below, is the model where Helinox says it moved to bigger-diameter poles.

Warranty: identical

Helinox covers both chairs the same way: its “5-Year warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for 5 years from the original owner's date of purchase.” It excludes “normal wear and tear, accidents (fire/lost/stolen), combat damage, improper care or cleaning, non-standard usage or negligence,” and says the product “must be purchased from an authorized Helinox dealer and should be returned to us for evaluation.” Both chairs score 7 on warranty.

Five years is short of the lifetime-of-the-product terms NEMO and Big Agnes put on their packable chairs, which is worth knowing if the warranty is your tiebreaker between brands. Between these two Helinox chairs it is a wash. Our camping chair warranty comparison lines up every maker.

Parts and repair: where Helinox beats most of the category

Both chairs score 9 on repairability, the highest of any chair we score. Helinox sells a replacement seat, replacement rubber feet and a replacement case for each: the feet come as a set of 4 for the Chair One and a pair for the Chair Zero. For a broken pole, Helinox's FAQ says its warranty team will help, “whether that involves sending a replacement pole or repairing the item at our service center.” For a torn seat, the same FAQ says you can “repair it using a patch kit (tent repair kits can be found online), or visit our website's replacement parts section to browse available replacement seats.”

That matters more than it sounds. The seat is the part of a camp chair that wears, and Helinox is the only chair maker in our registry that lists replacement seats for sale. Seat size and back height

Helinox doesn't publish a seat height or seat width for either chair, only the assembled footprint. The Chair One stands 25.5 inches tall and measures 20.5 inches wide by 20 deep. The Chair Zero stands 25 inches tall and measures 20 by 18. So the Zero is slightly smaller in every direction, most of all in depth, where it gives up 2 inches.

Neither chair is built to support your head or upper back; both top out at about 25 inches from the ground. Both score 4 on fit, the floor of our chair band, because none of the fit inputs we score (seat width, seat height, a high back, padding, recline or rigid arms) is published for either. Weight and packed size

This is the Zero's reason to exist. It weighs 1 lb 2 oz (509 g), or 1 lb 2.5 oz (531 g) packed, in a 14 x 4 x 4-inch cinch bag; Helinox calls it its smallest collapsible chair. The Chair One weighs 1 lb 15 oz (893 g), or 2 lb 2 oz (965 g) packed, in a 14 x 4.5 x 4.5-inch zippered case. By Helinox's ounce figures, that is 13 oz between the chairs and 15.5 oz between the packed weights. Both land in our top portability band (3 lb and under), so both score 10.

For a backpacker counting every item, 13 oz is a real number. For anyone driving to camp or carrying the chair in a day pack, it is hard to justify giving up 55 lb of rating and the heavier seat fabric to save it.

What about the Chair One XL?

If you are looking at the Chair One because the Zero seems small, Helinox's bigger model is worth a look. The Chair One XL has 40 percent more sitting space than the Chair One, per Helinox, on bigger-diameter poles. Its rating is the same 320 lb, with the same recycled 600D polyester seat, the same five-year warranty and its own replacement seat. It stands 35 inches tall, weighs 3 lb 5 oz and packs to 18.5 x 5 x 4.5 inches. It scores 6.9: it loses portability points to the Chair One without gaining any durability points, so buy it for room, not for strength.
